My apologies to readers of this blog for my three week absence. I have been evaluating how this blog can be incorporated into my new position with the City of Roanoke that is geared toward retaining and attracting young adults to the city/region.

The one program that I am implementing is to create a database of all those people that say, "Keep me in mind if you hear of a job….If you hear of anything….Can I email you my resume so that you will have it on file???, etc." and strategically communicate with them when opportunities exist.

The database will consist of 5 broad segments of people:

1. College graduates living in the region (more than half of the 60,000 plus are not from NewVA)

2. College alumni not living in NewVa (Virginia Tech graduate now living in Charlotte)

3. Young adults currently living in NewVa (please stay)

4. Natives who do not currently reside in NewVA (most potential of connecting)

5. Other, those without any association to NewVa (this group will come once the other 4 do)

Therefore, I need everyone’s help. If you want to be in the database and receive notices of employment opportunities, then please email me. Also, I really need your help in providing other people that you know that would fall into one of more of these categories that would like to receive these notices. (A web-based database will be operational in 2 weeks for you to input yourself.) 

I truly believe that this program will help bridge seekers with employers in the NewVa region. If you have thoughts, then please let me know.
