This is a question that I ask some of my old blogger friends who have been blogging or old-school Tweeting for the last three years. It appears those people who did not setup their own blog are bypassing the stand alone site and are building their own micro-blog through Twitter.
The issue with Twitter is it does not go in great detail about topics. How can a lenghty discussion and exchange occur? Maybe readers do not want a lengthy article? Maybe they just want the main idea and move on?
But that begs the question, are we creating a lot of generalists that know a little about a lot? Where are the experts on Twitter?
The original idea for blogging, so I thought, was for one person to have supreme knowledge about a niche topic to present it to a much more global audience. With Twitter, I am not sure I get this from those I follow and those who follow me. (I do acknowledge that you cannot appreciate Twitter unless you use some of the widgets attached to it. It really make the whole experience powerful.)
However there are some of my old-school blogger friends who have abnadoned their blog and moved exclusively to Twitter. I am not sure if I am ready to do that, but you can follow me @stuartmease
