The veteran, Jim Flowers, and assistant Lindsey Eversole are at it again. This time they are taking their entrepreneurial programs to another level by hosting the VT KnowledgeWorks Entrepreneurial Summit on April 2 at the Inn at Virginia Tech. This organization is the leader in our region for the awareness, facilitation, and cheerleading of the importance of entrepreneurs. Register now for this event.

The Virginia Department of Business Assistance Entrepreneurship Express Workshop will be held at Virginia Western’s Whitman Auditorium on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Nearly 200 people have pre-registered for the event. This is very encouraging as it indicates people are taking ownership of their careers and at the same time are making a long-term investment in the economy by creating new jobs and businesses. A colleague sent this blog post about reinventing yourself during this tough economic time. Like others, I have been inundated with requests to assist in job searching (on average about 8-10 unique persons a day). One thing is clear there is a new paradigm being created as you manager your job search and long-term career. Here is how we see the mix:

The new job/career paradigm has people working more than one job, obtaining multiple revenue streams while also taking a class at a community college to get some new billable skill and starting a business (internet, home-based, real estate, ebay, etc.). This mix moves people from John Doe Employee at Company X to John Doe Inc. Contract for Hire. People must now look at themselves as branding their micro-business and that business is me,myself and I.
