Speaking with a frustrated job seeker this morning, I was communicating the fact that not enough is done to assist individuals seeking jobs that fall into the following categories:
- Annual income $25-$50k
- Have attained a certain level of higher education
- Have upside in their career
- Members of Generation X and Y
- Have good skill sets, but may not be in high demand like engineering
There are a variety of agencies that help job seekers, but for several reasons, these agencies are not effectively assisting those that fall into the aforementioned categories. As a result, many in this group, leave the region, become UNDERemployed, or are still aimlessly searching.
From a region perspective, it is advantageous for us to become a public headhunter and help connect these individuals in the informal networks to area businesses. We need this group in the years to come as Boomers exit the workforce.
In the past, we have offered free weekly workshops to help individuals with their job searches on a macro level. Perhaps we should offer again to this group and more heavily promote and communicate it.
If you think this service should be offered, then let us know by posting a comment.
